Licences and activation

The free version needs no licence key and can be used on any number of Macs. A Pro licence removes the limits and covers three Macs. Licence keys look like MOCHI-K3F7Q-9WTXR-BND4M-2HVC8.
Start a free trial
Go to Settings > Licence > Start the free trial. You get two weeks of all features on that Mac, with no payment details required. At the end of the trial, Mochi returns to the free version.
Activate a licence key
Find your key
It is in the email you received when you bought Mochi. If you no longer have that email, sign in here with the address you used and your key will be shown.
Paste it into Settings > Licence
Capitals and dashes do not matter. Characters that look similar, such as
Oand0, are treated as the same. If the key is not valid, Mochi tells you straight away.That is all
The Mac is activated and the Pro features are unlocked. There is no account to create.
How licence checking works
When you activate, Mochi receives a signed licence file and stores it in your Keychain. It checks that file locally, so Mochi keeps working without an internet connection. It contacts the licence server occasionally to check that the licence is still valid.
- Being offline does not affect your licence. A check that cannot reach the server is ignored.
- The licence file is tied to one Mac, so copying it to another does not activate it.
- Expiry is checked against the current date every time, so a trial cannot be extended by leaving the Mac asleep.
Move a licence to another Mac
Go to Settings > Licence > Sign this Mac out to free the seat, then activate on the new Mac. You can also remove a Mac from your account page, which is useful if the old one has already been erased or sold.

If your licence expires
Mochi returns to the free version. Videos and screenshots you have already made are ordinary files and are not affected. Snippets above the free limit continue to work. Limits apply to creating new items, not to what already exists.
I bought Mochi but cannot find my key.
Sign in here with the email address you used. Your key is shown on that page, and you can manage your activated Macs from there.
Is the three-Mac limit per person or per licence?
Per licence. It is intended for one person's machines. For five or more seats, contact support for volume pricing.
Can I get a refund?
Yes, within 30 days of purchase. Email support and we will refund you.
Does Mochi contact the server when I am not using it?
It re-checks your licence occasionally and after your Mac wakes. That request contains your licence key and an anonymous identifier for the Mac. It contains nothing you have written. There is no analytics or usage tracking.
