Mochi checks for updates in the background, tells you when one is available, and installs it when you confirm.
Update settings

Stable and beta
The beta channel includes stable releases as well as betas, so you always receive whichever version is newer. Switching back to stable takes effect at the next check.
Updates during a recording
Automatic checks are postponed while a recording is in progress, because installing an update restarts the app. The check happens once you stop recording. A check you start yourself is never postponed.
Update security
- Every release is signed by us, notarised by Apple, and signed again with a key built into your copy of Mochi.
- An update that fails any of these checks is not offered.
- Updates are installed by replacing the app in place. This is why Mochi should be installed in your Applications folder rather than run from Downloads.
Version numbers
The version you see, such as 1.4.0, is for reference. Mochi compares an internal build number that only ever increases, so an update cannot move you to an older version. Beta versions are always treated as older than the final release they lead to.
